Recap of Our Memorable Radio Interview with RadioWave

At Beso Media, our strong suit is definitely social media, but after our recent radio interview with RadioWave, it is safe to say that we’re not too shabby on the radio either.

Our CCO, Betty Sibeso, and our Marketing Lead, Sesilia Kauluma, recently had the absolute pleasure of being interviewed by the talented Odile Gertze, for RadioWave’s ‘Growth at Home’ segment and here’s what they spoke about.

The Beginning and Challenges

The interview started with Betty being asked what inspired her to start this amazing company that is now widely recognized and loved. She started as a designer, and then moved on to freelancing, and that is how Beso Media started. She didn’t anticipate for it to become a full service creative agency, but here we are today!

“I just wanted to do design, and art, and serve small businesses.”

Every small to medium business has it’s challenges so Odile touched on some challenges that Betty has faced while running a small business. The main challenge that she is currently facing is the actual running of the business. This includes all the hoops and hurdles that need to be gotten over to even just legitimize the business.

Trends and Advice

As digital marketers, we are always on the lookout for upcoming trends in the industry. Sesilia spoke about a trend that has caught our attention, and this is how brands are communicating their information. Marketers are no longer trying to sell, they are trying to tell a story. With how much cost of living has increased, people are now more hesitant to part ways with their money so information needs to be communicated in a way that convinces the audience that the product/services they are paying for is worth it.

“Businesses are no longer trying to sell a product or service, they are trying to sell an experience.”

Anyone that has seen where Betty started and where she is now can probably say they are inspired to start their own business. So Odile did us all a favor and asked one of the questions we’ve all been wanting to ask. And that is what Betty’s advice to people who want to start their own business is. In one word, her advice was “passion”. Starting and running a business is not easy, so if you are not passionate about this thing you want to do, you’re not going to have a good time.

Proud Moments

Being passionate won’t always get you through the day though. Sometimes you have to look back at what you’ve started and sit for a moment and think about what you are proud of. Odile reminded Betty of that by asking her what she is most proud of when it comes to Beso Media. If you have been keeping up with us for the last couple of years, you will notice that you’ll see a couple of new faces every year, whether it’s interns, or new hires. All of these new faces are welcomed into a beautiful and safe community. This is one of the things Betty is proudest of, the community that is Beso Media. And of course, the amazing work we put out, with the limited resources that we have.

Sesilia added onto this by saying that another thing Betty should be extremely proud of is creating a safe space for people of color, and the queer community, to be as creative as they are meant to be in a space where their creativity is embraced and celebrated.

Innovative Technologies & Beso Media 2024

Staying or top of our game with our ever growing client list is not easy. Sesilia touched on some of the innovative technologies that we use. The technologies that we mainly make use of are project management tools such as Asana and Airtable. These tools help us communicate effectively within the company, as well as with our clients.

The last point we touched on is what everyone can expect from Beso Media for the rest of 2024, and this is what Sesilia had to say. It is evident that we are growing, and as we grow, so does our client list. However, we are currently understaffed which means it’s all hands on deck. This means that we currently do not have the time nor the resources to focus on the projects that fall under Beso Media, such as: Sketchy, The Creator List, ICreate Namibia, Monochrome Magazine, and all the events that fall under Monochrome.

In order to place more focus on these projects, a lot of growth needs to happen in the company. So that is what everyone can expect from Beso Media this year; growth.

That wraps up our interview recap. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Odile Gertze and RadioWave for taking the time to interview us and getting to know more about Beso Media. If you couldn’t tune in but would still like to have a listen to our interview, you can find it here.
